Urban Bird Works for 'Illustrate'
What an inspiration the London Design Festival is! So much exciting stuff packed in to so few days, Susan Smart who took some of these great shots of my work is an athletic and energetic photographer who covers the event and knows how to find an interesting angle and to process work quickly! Thanks Susan!

'Illustrate' with Designers Block in 2007 is what really got me started on the Urban Bird brand, part way through my MA the opportunity to use an empty retail unit as a blank canvas sprung forth my proposal for combining scale, illustration and light. Five pillars featuring what I now refer to as the Urban Bird classic designs were large format printed to four metres in height by Cestrian print. Lit with cool fluorescent tubes, we suspended the pillars and as the light dimmed the glow increased. People loved visiting the space, the phone cameras came out! and the event which lasted two weeks, was attended by many people from all over the world and featured a number of illustrators, cartoonists, graffitti artists who all took a space and created something unique!

Thanks to DB & the LDF it was really put on the map and I could continue with my MA more confidently and developed scaled down versions of the initial light pillar concept as light shades as a result of the requests from members of the public who wanted them for their homes.
